RAYMOND CUP 2011

Raymond Cup 2011
5th. November

After a long break of 3 years, the Changi Duffers got together again on 5th. November 2011 competing for the Raymond Cup Challenge Trophy. Almost all the old kakis turned up, and we also have a few new faces to join our event.

Although the response was overwhelming and encouraging, but we could not say the same about the weather. It had been raining almost every day leading up to 5th. Nov. And all of us, especially our Captain Raymond, prayed hard for a sunny afternoon. A wash out would be a great disappointment – we still remember the last event.

Fortunately, the Changi Duffers are a bunch of lucky golfers. We were blessed with blue sky that afternoon as it turned out to be a perfect weather for golf. We managed to have all our games completed smoothly.

After the game, we proceeded to Thai Pan Restaurant to have our dinner in a private room reserved. The atmosphere was like of a kind of reunion dinner, the room is filled with cheerful conversation, people shouting and laughing. Everyone seemed to be in a joyous mood.
We had 2 tables of 10 course Chinese Dinner. Food served on that night was good, except the olive fried rice was a bit saltish, all the rest went well.

Dinner started with the first highlight-announcing the Lychees of the game. This year, the Lychee went to Alice Lu and she is accompanied by Alan Loi and Willie Tan, the second and third Lychee respectively. Just like traditionally practised, the three Lychees have to bottom up their beer after reading the pledge. With the cheering from the room, all three drank up and pocketed the two Pro Vs.

Our very active emcee, Tommy Tan, also followed up with the winners from both men and ladies division – Mr. Chionh Chye Hion and Ms Hng Siew Choo. Captain Raymond presented the Raymond Cup Challenge Trophy to the overall winner-Chionh Chye Hion.

We would like to sincerely thank the people that contributed to make this event a successful one:

  • First, Captain Raymond Chan who chaired the event, and sponsored the umbrella for door gift and also brought along 2 bottles of XOs.

  • Tommy Tan has been working out all the prizes, door gifts and made arrangement for the dinner.

  • Daryl Wong took the responsibility to schedule all the flights and making sure all tee-off are problem free.

  • Roland Chan, Cheng Soon Mong, Chionh Chye Hion all bring along some liquor. ( these alcohol helps to build up the atmosphere for a perfect evening.)

  • We also thank all participants for their support and looking forward to the next game scheduled to be played in March next year.
A special mention : We were very glad that Chee Cheow Eng managed to return in time from his overseas posting to join us for dinner. It was good to see him again, he had been MIA for a long period and we hope he will be able to join us soon.

Cheers to all Changi Duffers and see you again in the next challenge for more fun.
